Summary of Expertise:

Listed with other top experts in:

Expert served as a technology and licensing consultant to numerous technology-based companies (1987-1994) and during the period from 1994 to 2000, managed the worldwide licensing of Mobil Oil Corporation's exploration and producing technologies. As principal of Expert's Firm, he now offers licensing consulting services to technology-based businesses. Licensing proprietary technologies is an effective way to achieve added returns on a company's investment in the development of intellectual property (IP). The licensing process requires expertise in formulating a strategy for managing an enterprise's IP, the appraisal of relevant internal and external technologies, and in the negotiation process to finalize agreements that achieve the desired strategic and financial goals associated with a licensing program. Expert also provides related services such as patent and technology portfolio evaluation, and technical and negotiating support for in-licensing activities. He has also taught management courses at Yale University in the area of strategic technology management.

Acoustic and wave propagation phenomena are areas in which Expert specializes. Applications include diverse industrial settings, such as oil well drilling and logging, seismic analysis, structural design, and mitigation of noise in consumer products. He has published more than a dozen articles in technical journals and books dealing with acoustical and wave propagation phenomena in elastic and anelastic materials, and with such related phenomena as the interaction between elastic waves and crack growth in brittle solids.

Logging is the process by which specialized instruments are used to measure and record a host of rock formation characteristics during well drilling. Virtually every discipline in the fields of mechanics, electronics, and physics -- ranging from acoustics to nuclear instrumentation -- is brought to bear in the measurements made by logging instruments. Expert has extensive experience in working with oil companies and oil service companies in developing and using such devices, and interpreting the resulting measurements.
