Summary of Expertise: Listed with other top experts in:
Expert is an expert in the development and application of electrochemical techniques in corrosion research, monitoring, and control. He has developed the theoretical background of many electrochemical techniques for evaluating corrosion phenomena in laboratory studies and field applications. He is equally involved in basic studies of electrochemical reactions involved in corrosion processes and in the development of new approaches for corrosion monitoring and control.

corrosion prevention

corrosion monitoring

corrosion science

Expert has given a detailed theoretical treatment of the polarization resistance technique, which is the most accepted approach for measuring corrosion rates. He developed a new analysis of the corrosion behavior of coupled dissimilar metals and developed an experimental technique which allows quantitative measurements of the dissolution rate of galvanic couples.

corrosion measurement

Expert devised an electrochemical sensor for the hydrogen content in steel and has used acoustic emission for corrosion monitoring. An electrochemical sensor (the atmospheric corrosion monitor) has been developed to monitor the time-of-wetness in atmospheric corrosion studies.

electrochemical sensor

Expert's recent activities include the development of the AC impedance technique as a tool for electrochemical corrosion research. He has applied electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) in many areas of corrosion research.

electrochemical impedance spectroscopy

impedance spectroscopy

Expert is one of the pioneers of the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) technique which has been applied in the evaluation of the mechanisms of corrosion inhibition by organic and inorganic compounds. At present, EIS is used in an evaluation of methods of corrosion protection of metal matrix composites. Additional applications include the study of the corrosion behavior of structural materials in nonaqueous media and in low conductivity media, where traditional DC techniques fail.

electrochemical process

corrosion inhibitor

Expert is an authority on corrosion protection by polymer coatings, conversion coatings, and anodized layers.

anti-corrosive coating material

Expert has developed the atmospheric corrosion rate monitor (ACRM) for the study of the effects of pollutants and acid rain on the corrosion behavior of structural materials.

atmospheric corrosion

Most recently, Expert has initiated a research project in the area of corrosion protection by surface modification. He has developed a patented process for surface modification of aluminum alloys which does not use hazardous hexavalent chromium.

corrosion resistance

surface modification

Expert has evaluated MIC of several stainless steels, copper alloys, and titanium in seawater and has published reviews concerning the use of electrochemical techniques for the study of MIC.
