Expert has been working in the area of acoustics for over 30 years. He has recently worked on the design and development of acoustical products for several manufacturers in the U.S. He has been responsible for engineering product development, including the development of molded fiberglass for sound control and noise isolation. Expert has participated in acoustical properties testing of common building products. While serving as consultant and instructor to the Architectural Design School of North Carolina State University, Expert taught basic principles of room acoustics, mechanical noise reduction, and sound isolation systems.
Expert's experience includes key roles in the acoustical design of major performance arts facilities in the southeastern U.S., including large community facilities, college auditoria, fine arts teaching facilities, church sanctuary and activity centers, high school auditoria, and speech facilities for corporate clients. He has designed open plan office facilities, including masking systems for a number of multi-national corporations.
Expert's experience in the area of environmental noise assessment includes numerous airport and aircraft noise studies and industrial noise studies for a wide variety of clients.
Expert has performed material analysis of products for both sound isolation and sound absorption. The analysis was conducted to determine air cell structure, physical density, and mass of the material.
Expert has conducted field measurements to determine spectral noise of mechanical or industrial systems, including barrier noise testing to certify to STC design levels. He has worked with computer-generated noise spectra from SPL information furnished by industrial or mechanical equipment manufacturers.
Expert has written noise reduction specifications and furnished them to the client based on field testing or certified laboratory tests. These specifications are either noise barrier or acoustic absorption recommendations or both to reach an agreed-upon noise reduction for the project. Cost analysis is a portion of this specification.
With mechanical engineering firms, Expert outlines equipment and procedures to reduce background noise levels to acceptable and agreed upon levels. He educates people and recommends these noise levels based on his experience.
Along with several industrial engineers, Expert has designed two anechoic chambers for large industrial clients. The levels of isolation and absorption were based on limits of the test data requirements.
Expert evaluates mechanical plans and field tests mechanical systems in order to reduce background noise in any facility were NC/RC requirements are a function of the space. He recommends corrective measures to reduce mechanical noise to agreed-upon noise levels.
