Expert has over 40 years of experience as a test engineer, applications engineer, consultant, and lecturer on a wide variety of vibration testing of electrical components, subassemblies, and equipment from semiconductors to large rack-mount modules. His experience encompasses the formulation of test procedures, facility selection, fixture design, and supervision of testing.

electronic equipment random vibration

Expert's extensive experience in shock testing includes selecting and purchasing test equipment and instrumentation, writing test procedures, selecting test conditions, supervising test performance, conducting failure analysis, and developing new instrumentation. Shock environments ranged from 5g, 50ms through 100,000g and pyroshock on equipment ranging from semiconductors to large rack-mount modules.

electronic equipment shock vibration

Expert's responsibilities throughout his career have involved sine, complex, and random vibration testing of a wide variety of electronic equipment and components. He has conducted flight test, road test, and field test procedures as well as failure analysis.

electronic equipment vibration

Most of Expert's career has been concerned with the testing and measurement of vibration, shock, pressure, vacuum, temperature, strain, hermeticity, and environmental effects (corrosion, sand, dust, chemical exposure, etc.). He has performed or supervised measurements on automobile engines, electronic components and equipment, aerospace components, and medical equipment.

mechanical engineering measurement

hermeticity testing

As an application engineer for a major instrumentation company, Expert was involved with instrumentation definition and specification as well as data analysis for rail, passenger car, and military vehicle measurements (highway and off-road). He also participated in the design and application of a ride vibration monitoring system for heavy equipment operators.

over-the-road vibration

Since 1985, Expert has lectured extensively throughout the US, Europe, and Japan on random vibration testing and measurement. He has also consulted with clients on instrumentation and facility selection and test procedures. Prior to 1985, he devoted 20 years to supervising vibration tests and participating in the selection of measurement instrumentation.

random vibration

The testing, measurement, and analysis of shock vibration have been areas of primary interest to Expert throughout his career. He has conducted and supervised shock tests on a wide variety of equipment using drop tests, pneumatically accelerated, gas-propelled projectiles, and pyroshock excitations.

shock vibration

Expert has over 30 years of experience in all phases of vibration measurement and testing. He has written test procedures, selected equipment and instrumentation, conducted tests, analyzed data, designed test fixtures, applied (installed) instrumentation, and maintained and calibrated instrumentation.

vibration measurement

In 1963, Expert purchased, installed, set up, and calibrated a vibration test system for his employer, a component manufacturer. Since that time he has been involved in all phases of vibration testing including writing procedures and specifications, procuring equipment and instrumentation, designing fixtures, conducting and supervising tests, performing calibrations, training personnel, designing facility layout, consulting, and lecturing. His experience includes periodic and random vibration involving products from semiconductors to railroad cars and aircraft. He is familiar with military, commercial, and automotive specifications as well as manual, analog, and digital instrumentation and controls.

vibration testing

Expert has conducted measurements and simulation of environmental and climatic conditions involving temperature, humidity, salt fog, sand, dust, solar radiation, and altitude. He has written procedures and procured equipment for testing these conditions singly or in combination.

environmental testing

Expert has performed and supervised calibrations of instruments used for measuring vibration. He also developed new calibration equipment and has written procedures and specifications. Expert has also performed calibrations and conducted accuracy assessments of instruments used for measuring shock (ranging from 10g to 100,000g). He developed new calibration equipment, wrote specifications, and conducted a needs survey for NIST.

vibration instrument calibration

Expert has in-depth knowledge of measuring transient or oscillatory pressure changes caused by combustion events, turbulent flow, and acoustic effects of connecting plumbing. He has dealt with a wide variety of applications, environments, and performance requirements. He managed the development of new dynamic pressure measurement products. Expert is familiar with the calibration and accuracy assessment of instruments used for measuring dynamic pressures.
