Expert worked on camera tube advanced development while at RCA. He is familiar with vidicons, orthicons, isocons, silicon vidicons, silicon-intensifier vidicon (SIT tubes), and return-beam vidicons. Expert worked on additional camera tube engineering development while at ITT involving image dissector tubes and Vidissector(R) tubes. He has helped clients with resolution, distortion, modulation transfer, gain, signal-to-noise ratio, and sensitivity questions.

Experienced with various types of electron-multiplier tubes, Expert has worked specifically with microchannel plate (MCP) photomultiplier tubes (PMTs), venetian-blind PMTs, discrete-dynode PMTs, focused dynode PMTs, channel multiplier PMTs, and magnetic multiplier PMTs. He has advised clients with issues related to design, input window, photocathode, multiplier choice, gain, signal-to-noise ratio, dark count rate, potting, magnetic shield, and shielded leads.

Expert is experienced with photocathode technologies for X-ray, ultraviolet, visible, and near-infrared spectral ranges. He can advise clients with questions on selection, design, spectral sensitivity, dark current (dark count rate), uniformity, lifetime, and other issues. He has worked with gallium-arsenide, gallium-indium arsenide, "III-V," negative-electron affinity, (Cs-O-Ag), (Cs-Sb), (Cs-Te), (Cs-Na-K-Sb), and Cs-K-Sb) types of photocathodes.


Expert gained a broad range of expertise in electro-optical systems while at RCA, Bendix, ITT, and Litton. He is knowledgeable of design, development, and test aspects of night-vision imaging systems and television cameras. He has worked on designs made from optical input to optical or electronic output. He has complete systems analysis and test experience with lenses, sensors, power-supplies, potting materials, TV cameras, and CCD cameras.

With a wide-ranging base of expertise in optoelectronics science gained throughout his career, Expert has written papers on various types of image converter tubes, imaging devices, microchannel plates, space-charge-limited electron guns, and space-charge-limited electron flow in gas diodes.

Expert is familiar with the use of photoelectronic and charge-coupled device (CCD) technologies to achieve low-light-level imaging or photon-counting imaging capabilities. He has designed and developed several image tube intensified CCD cameras and electron-bombarded CCD (EBCCD) cameras.

Brice is a Fellow of IEEE, and is a member of the American Physical Society, the Optical Society of America, the Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers, and the American Astronomical Society.


He is an SME Certified Manufacturing Engineer.


Expert has been elected Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers for both the theory and application of photo-electronics, image conversion, and electron multiplication. He has three NASA Certificates of Recognition, and two additional awards in the electro-optical sensors and systems field. He received the Litton Industries Advanced Technology Achievement Award, the Beijing Institute of Technology Medal, and the IEEE Third Millennium Medal for Outstanding Achievements and Contributions.
