Summary of Expertise:

Listed with other top experts in:

Expert writes real-time C and C++ programs for system-level tasks; lately much of his programming has been on a Windows platform using Borland C++ Builder, Microsoft Visual Basic.NET and C#. Currently, he is writing application software for smart cards using C#; this involves low-level hardware access and also cryptography. He has written applications running under OS-9, UNIX, and DOS operating systems. His recent work involved embedded software development for fixed and mobile-radio hardware using the V25 and 68HC11 with Nucleus Plus, a real-time kernel. He also writes 68000 assembly code for embedded applications, most recently a debug firmware component for a custom 68008 board he designed. Earlier, he had designed and written nine real-time multitasking C programs to implement a combustion-controller system.

Expert has designed and produced several 68000 microprocessor systems. These systems were developed using the free-running processor technique described in his book. The procedure permits an engineer to quickly breadboard and troubleshoot a new computer design without the typically expensive test equipment required by a conventional design approach.

Expert teaches classes on setting up and troubleshooting PC systems. He has installed systems using SCO UNIX, MS-DOS, and Coherent (a UNIX clone). He is familiar with the ISA bus (AT bus) architecture and hardware design requirements for boards running on the ISA bus. He has designed and developed a 68008 slave processor board to run in the IBM PC and clone environments.
