Summary of Expertise: Listed with other top experts in:
Expert has a broad background in electro-optical systems design and systems engineering spanning 28 years in government and industrial facilities. His experience includes the systems design and field testing of many earlier laser guided missile seekers, laser rangefinders, and optical reconnaissance trackers. His specialization in optical countermeasures includes the development and testing of infrared (IR) and visual electromagnetic (EM) sources for jamming and deception, for use on airborne and ground vehicles. His extensive experience in field testing optical systems has also included studies of atmospheric effects of beam propagation, as well as a familiarity with aerosol and meteorological instrumentation.

Over the last twelve years, Expert has applied his expertise towards solving industrial problems associated with identifying a product's "uniqueness." His attention has been focused on the optical features of materials requiring analysis by UV-VIS-IR spectrometers, photometric/radiometric measurements, and coherent surface scattering effects. His work with material properties has led to the development of unique taggants for inclusion into products used to create a covert optical signature for identification, or as a counterfeit deterrent.

A significant portion of Expert's consulting services is performed for clients engaged in product marking and identification. His primary emphasis is on 2-D symbiology and marking processes, for use as documentation control, inventory control, and quality measurement. His work has contributed many useful and patented designs for 2-D image sensors, using charge-coupled device (CCD) technology for combination with processing algorithms for image recovery and analysis. He is familiar with illumination sources and techniques used with optical image capture.
 •

product identification

Since he founded Copyguard, Inc. in 1986, Expert has used the technologies of holography and electrostatic (photocopy) imaging processes in order to produce CopyShield (tm), a product designed to prevent unauthorized copying of printed documents. CopyShield is a thin, mylar-like overlay that, when applied over printed documents using adhesive transfer, can be effective in preventing the undesired photocopy of information.

photocopying prevention

Expert has applied optical systems design experience towards solving problems involving illumination sources associated with optical scanners, imaging sensors, and communication links. In solving design problems for clients, Expert has used the spectral emission features of light-emitting diodes semiconductor and solid-state coherent sources, quartz-halogen, and gas discharge tubes for incorporation into commercial and military systems.
