Summary of Expertise: Listed with other top experts in:
GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM (GPS); GLOBAL NAVIGATION SATELLITE SYSTEM (GLONASS). Since 1981, Expert has devoted all of his professional career to areas of study related to research and applications of the Global Positioning System. It began with the testing of the prototype Macrometer Receiver at MIT in 1981, and continues today with algorithmic developments for the combined pseudo range and carrier phase processing of GPS. He has carried out extensive software developments for GPS data processing, and has published the book "GPS Satellite Surveying" which sells world-wide. He is currently interested in the Russian GLONASS system as well. He has worked with GLONASS carrier phase analyses for precise baseline determination.

GEODESY. Expert has a detailed knowledge of geodetic theory as he regularly teaches graduate courses on Geometric Geodesy, Physical Geodesy, Satellite Geodesy, and GPS Positioning. He has used gravity to compute high precision geoid undulation along the coast of Maine in order to supplement GPS positioning regarding height.

LEAST SQUARES METHOD. Expert regularly teaches two courses in least squares adjustments at the University of Maine. The examples with which he works usually deal with geodetic and engineering networks.

NAVIGATION; SURVEYING. Expert has recently developed an active interest in navigation. His experience is related to GPS applications. His current research is focused on the intersection of surveying and navigation. An example of this is the problem of developing a unified GPS pseudo range/carrier phase approach to high precision navigation/surveying. Expert has had about four years of practical experience in several areas of surveying. His most recent activity is in Hydrographic Surveying. This is, of course, related to GPS. Expert also has a good working knowledge of photogrammetry. Currently, he is actively involved with a project for high precision airplane positioning with GPS to support video mapping.
