Summary of Expertise:

Listed with other top experts in:

ARSENIC, SELENIUM, & TELLURIUM CHEMISTRY. For over 40 years, Expert has maintained a program of research devoted to the chemistry of arsenic, selenium, and tellurium. He has an established and highly recognized level of accomplishment in this area which includes research on the synthesis, analysis, structural and detailed spectroscopic studies of the chemistry of these elements.

His work on these elements began at Kodak. He developed the Kodak Ektron Detector, a chemically deposited lead selenide infrared sensing unit utilizing lead citrate, dimethylselenourea, sulfite, and pH control. The entire process, including initial research on the synthesis of a variety of selenium compounds was initiated by him and subsequently patented. With his research he has continued efforts in all areas of selenium, arsenic, and tellurium chemistry. Recently Expert discovered a very interesting tellurium compound which yields an image on exposure to ultraviolet light. At low temperatures the image does not appear until the exposed sheet remains at room temperature.

THIN FILM DEPOSITION. Expert is investigating the deposition of chalcogenide semiconductor thin films by chemical deposition from homogeneous solutions. He has developed deposition methods for semiconductors such as lead selenide, cadmium sulfide, copper sulfide, and related materials on glass, ceramic, and flexible plastic surfaces. They have applications in the fields of infrared detection, photovoltaics, solar energy collectors, and other areas.

FOSSIL FUELS; ARSENIC IN NATURAL GAS. Over a period of three years, Expert completed a research project devoted to the identification, analysis, and chemical reactions of arsenic compounds in natural gas. He has identified the compounds, developed methods for their analysis, studied their reactions with sulfur compounds, and investigated methods for their removal. Since 1976, Expert has been involved in the speciation of trace elements in fossil fuels. Initial efforts centered about uranium, but more recently he has been studying titanium and molybdenum. Extensive work has been carried out in the speciation of arsenic in oil shales and natural gas.
