SHORT FIBER TECHNOLOGY. Expert has 35 years of industrial experience with short fiber technology. This experience is in both the formation of short fibers such as whiskers, mineral fibers, chopped fibers, and milled fibers, and in their efficient application in plastic, metallic, and ceramic matrixes.

PACKING CONCEPTS. In 1973, Expert did his Ph.D. thesis on the packing of fibers and spheres. Since then he has lectured and consulted around the world on the efficient use of short fibers and fillers, their combination in plastic composites, and ceramic whisker fibers in ceramic matrixes.

SINGLE CRYSTAL TECHNOLOGY; WHISKER. His experience in single crystal technology covers the growth of nearly all types of whiskers and single crystal fibers of oxides, nitrides, carbides, and borides by almost all known processes (VS, CVD, VLS, and sublimation). He has consulted with more than 15 companies in the areas of growth, characterization, and application of single crystal fibers.

SHORT FIBER REINFORCED CERAMIC AND METALLIC COMPOSITES. Expert's expertise in the packing area is directly applicable to making more efficient reinforced short fiber reinforcements. The application of his packing theory made it possible to make whiskers into reinforced, ceramic cutting tools. He has consulted in this area.

He is a professional engineer, scientist, inventor, entrepreneur, writer, publisher, editor and lecturer. He is a retired staff member of Los Alamos National Labs and has worked previously as a scientific staff member at Exxon Research Center and at Thiokol Chemical Rocket Engine Div. He recently founded his own research company where he is currently working on a revolutionary new electric light bulb based on using a single crystal fiber as a filament.

Market Research:
Since 1963 he has been growing single crystal fibers called "whiskers." His first company was called Thermokenetic Fibers (1963-68), the World's first commercial source of whisker material. What are whiskers? They are high purity single crystals grown in or on one axis so that they form a fiber material. He grows these by what is known as the VLS process, which stands for Vapor, Liquid, and Solid. When frost forms on your window, it is a vapor–solid crystal growth process. When ice forms in a pond, it is a liquid–solid crystal growth process. His process is very different from these two.
