Summary of Expertise:

Listed with other top experts in:

LOGISTICS; OPERATIONS RESEARCH. Expert's Ph.D. is in Operations Research and he has taught graduate and undergraduate courses in the area from 1975 until 2003. He has been intimately involved in Space Shuttle logistics since 1982. His primary interests include probabilistic systems analysis, logistics, queueing, inventory control, decision making under uncertainty, and discrete event computer simulation. Much of Expert's recent career has been directed towards developing logistics databases and application software (using third and fourth generation software such as Fortran and Focus) to assist with forecasting repair traffic and the associated spares, inventory, and manpower loading requirements. Applications during the early stages of Expert's career were heavily directed towards Air Traffic Control.

COMPUTER-BASED SIMULATION; DISCRETE EVENT SIMULATION. For most of his professional career, Expert has been involved with computer simulations, with an emphasis on discrete event simulation. He has taught computer simulation at graduate and undergraduate levels for over ten years. He has supervised hundreds of student simulation projects related to service systems, transportation systems, computer systems, and other areas related to assisting decision makers under uncertainty. He has published numerous refereed journal articles which utilize discrete event simulations. Applications include Space Station Crew Rescue Vehicle, Space Shuttle Fleet Sizing, Ground Processing and Spares Management, Logistics for Off-Shore Oil Rigs, Buffering Strategies for Manufacturing Job Shops, Dynamic Scheduling of Aircraft in High-Density Terminal Areas, and Ground-Based Collision Avoidance Systems.

DATABASE MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS; MICROSOFT ACCESS. Since 1992, Expert has been teaching database management systems with an emphasis on microcomputer applications. He has also been involved in developing relational database applications using Microsoft Access, Microsoft SQLServer, and ORACLE.

Expert has designed, developed and implemented a sophisticated/user friendly web application used by Space Shuttle logisticians and engineers. The application uses ColdFusion, Javascript, and ORACLE and has been operational for over 5 years.
