Summary of Expertise:

Listed with other top experts in:

Expert has 30 years of experience in research and development of electrophotographic technology. He holds 14 patents, many in this area, and has had a major impact on dry toning development processes used in copiers. He pioneered the development of a color copier for one of the major manufacturers. He is knowledgeable of all electrophotographic processes including charging, exposure, development, transfer, fusing, and cleaning. He has particular interest in image quality of toner images and the ways to improve this quality. Expert developed a method to reduce graininess in copies by understanding the physics of development and applied this knowledge to a new photoconductor which is now being used in all of Kodak's high speed copiers. He has consulted with numerous clients on electrophotographic problems and has contacts at major universities and with industrial suppliers.

DIGITAL SHORT-RUN COLOR PRINTER. Expert has been studying the new technologies for digital color prints from Indigo, the Xeikon, and the QuichMaster DI. He can advise clients on the best device for their application. Most recently, Expert has been working with the Xeikon DCP-1, which can print in four colors, both sides at 35 pages/minute, and is trained on both operation and service.

 •

electrophotographic photocopier

Expert has experience with printers that use both lasers and LEDs to write an image on the photoconductive surface in a CAD (charge area development) or DAD (discharge area development). He has extensive experience with both PC drum and film belt machine designs as well as single and dual component development systems.
 •

electrophotographic printer

A significant portion of Expert's career has been devoted to understanding the complex interactions and solving problems involved with electrophotographic systems. Some of the areas he has been involved with include uniformity problems in charging and exposing, improved development in the areas of background, satellites, and carry-out and transfer optimization. He has developed methods to increase gloss in fusing systems and studied methods to improve cleaning of photoconductors. Expert theorized, analyzed, and implemented a very high quality development process that delivers toner more uniformly and at a higher process rate. This development system is used in Kodak's newest copiers and won the first Team Award. By using designed experiments and his extensive knowledge in this area, he has helped resolve many set-point problems.

electrophotographic system

Expert has been involved with electrophotography from the first copier, the Xerox 914, to the present high speed duplicators and laser printers. He has a complete understanding of the technology, its opportunities and limitations. He has developed new technology to improve the quality and reliability of this equipment. He has been directly involved with many projects from early research to market introduction.

 •

electrostatic printing

The recent change from optical to digital printing systems has changed electrophotographic technology. Expert has been involved with this change from "white writers" to "black writers" and can direct efforts to deal with this new direction in the technology.
 •

laser printer

Color copying and printing are emerging areas of hard copy output being driven by the computer revolution. Expert has been involved with color electrophotographic systems from both the process and color theory areas. He was a leading force in the development of a color copier for a major US manufacturer.
