JUST-IN-TIME MANUFACTURING. Expert has assisted several small and medium-sized companies implement various aspects of quick-response, continuous-flow, Just-In-Time (JIT) manufacturing. One of his recent projects resulted in a circuit board subcontractor receiving vendor certification from a major telephone switch maker. He has taught numerous JIT seminars under university sponsorship since 1986. Earlier in his career, he was a manager, purchasing agent, and sales manager for a job shop foundry. DESIGN FOR MANUFACTURABILITY; PART DESIGN. Expert began work in this area in 1965 when he overtook the management of a job shop foundry. Since 1974, he has been a state-salaried engineering consultant to North Carolina industry, and is senior metalworking specialist with North Carolina State University's Industrial Extension Service. His expertise includes metal and die castings, and he is adept in most cutting, forming, fabricating, and finishing operations. He has taught university-sponsored seminars on the production of metal parts and is an editor for the "North Carolina Metalworking Directory." NONFERROUS METAL CASTING TECHNOLOGY. Expert managed a 70-man aluminum and brass jobbing foundry from 1965 through 1974, performing all management functions besides finance. He earned his MS degree in Materials and Industrial Engineering in 1978, and wrote his Master's Thesis on defects in die castings (rewritten and published in "Foundry Management and Technology" in 1981). Since 1974, he also has served as consultant and troubleshooter for makers of metal parts for North Carolina State University's Industrial Extension Service. JUSTIFICATION OF CAPITAL INVESTMENT. For four years, Expert' principal duty was payback analysis (or justification of capital investment). He co-authored a publication with John R. Canada on this topic in "Should We Automate Now?"
