Summary of Expertise:

Listed with other top experts in:

Expert is recognized as an international authority in the field of cavitation and has more than 35 years of research experience in this area. This has involved laboratory studies of various phases of cavitation, cavitation erosion and noise, and field investigations which include the first field investigation of propeller erosion in the U.S. His current research includes vortex cavitation and cavitation erosion in turbines.

He recently returned to the Expert's University after being on loan to the National Science Foundation where he is Program Director of Fluid Dynamics and Hydraulics for three years. His career in fluid mechanics spans more than 40 years. It has included research and teaching in boundary layer theory, aerodynamics, secondary flows, and turbulence. His design experience includes rocket propulsion, high speed marine vehicles, specialized research facilities, and turbomachinery.

His expertise in this area is an outgrowth of his work in cavitation. He has been principal investigator on various research projects involving aeration of boundary layer flow for acoustic isolation, aeration of wastewater, and pump performance in aerated flow. He has consulted in the wastewater treatment industry.

His experience in hydropower dates back to 1960, when he performed research and analysis of secondary flow losses in turbines. He was responsible for the design and construction of the only independent turbine testing laboratory in the U.S. His research experience includes resource analysis, turbine hydromechanics, cavitation, and erosion. Expert is Co-Editor of Hydropower Engineering Handbook and has several publications in this area.
