Summary of Expertise: Listed with other top experts in:
INORGANIC MATERIALS SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING; ELECTRON MICROSCOPE. Expert is a world renowned researcher in materials science and engineering. He is an expert at the relation between microstructure processing and the properties of a material. His research is directed at understanding the structure of inorganic materials via the electron microscope, then using the results to improve existing materials or to tailor the microstructure of new materials to achieve the desired properties, including economic feasibility. He has applied his skills to a wide variety of materials (e.g. metals, ceramics, semiconductors, and magnets, etc.).

STAINLESS STEEL; DUAL-PHASE CARBON STEEL. Expert's materials expertise includes metals, ceramics. He has worked with all types of steels (stainless, high; and low-alloy) and he has developed dual-phase carbon steels which have high drawability, ductility, and high strength with applications in wire and concrete. He has recently worked with aluminum-lithium (Al-Li) alloys.

DUAL-PHASE STEEL. Expert uses dual-phase steel processing to design composite microstructures. These structures offer a degree of metallurgical flexibility that is absent in conventionally processed alloys. Expert has also researched low-carbon dual-phase steels for concrete reinforcement applications. The use of the steels greatly improved corrosion resistance and could eliminate the need for coatings. These steels, which could greatly cut costs, can be produced on line in a hot mill by controlled rolling and quenching.

MICROSTRUCTUAL DESIGN OF INORGANIC MATERIALS. In addition to his work in low-carbon steels (see above), Expert has designed an improved high-temperature S13Nh and joining. He has also designed improved magnetic materials, including Fe/Nd/B alloys based on cobalt.

ADVANCED MATERIAL. Since he understands the repetition between processing-structure-properties of advanced materials, Expert can optimize their performance. He is also able to "tailor-design" the meso/microstructures of materials for specific applications.

REFRACTORY MATERIAL; STRUCTURAL CERAMIC. Expert has great knowledge of structural ceramics, refractories, and composites such as zirconium mullite and silicon nitrides.

MAGNETIC MATERIALS; PERMANENT MAGNET; ALNICO MAGNET. He has a large research project in magnetic materials. His expertise includes permanent magnets such as neodynium iron boron, alnico, ferrites, and rare earth cobalts. Expert has worked with recording materials for both the head and the recording medium.

MATERIALS ENGINEERING, DESIGN, FAILURE ANALYSIS. Expert has worked with materials for engineering applications and systems, including structural steels, composites, and magnetic materials (hard, soft, recording).

ALLOY DESIGN; MATERIAL DESIGN. Expert has a broad range of experience in the design of alloys and ceramics as well as mechanical and physical properties.
