He is the recipient of various awards, including: Turner Award frpm EcS.; the Geisler Award, Campbell Lecturer, and the Sauveur Award from ASM; the Templin Award from ASTM; the Hofman Prize from LDA; and the Distinguished Career and New England Region Conference Awards from AIME.

Expert has published 175 technical papers, edited 22 books and has edited the section on electrical materials for Pergamon's "Encyclopedia of Materials Science and Engineering." He has published 80 book reviews, translated a book on thermodynamics, and holds six patents on materials and materials processing.
