Since 1975, a major focus of Expert's career has been the application of pattern recognition, imaging, and sensing technology, from the research and development lab to the factory floor. He established and managed image processing labs, machine vision, measurement, and control automation groups. He was Director & Founder of the Process Automation Center of Excellence at RJR Nabisco. He served RJR Nabisco corporate affiliates with cost-effective application of machine vision and other automation technologies. As Manager of the Vision Systems Automation Lab, and Senior Staff R&D Engineer, Expert developed and applied machine vision, image analysis, and electro-optic technology for manufacturing and R&D in tobacco and corporate affiliate operations. He also recruited, trained, and managed staff, and established the vision lab.

He was granted the CMfgE title of Certified Manufacturing Engineer in the field of machine vision for his early pioneering work and numerous system applications.

Professional Appointments

Expert is on the board and has been Secretary and Chairman of the Machine Vision Association of Society of Manufacturing Engineers. He has been speaker, session chair and advisory board member for VISION '96, '94, '92, '90, '88, '87, and '86, was vice chair of VISION '89 and chaired the VISION '90 Conference. Expert was the executive producer of "The World of Machine Vision" 55-minute videotape developed for the MVA/SME in January 1992. He delivered the keynote address at VISION '96 titled "Machine Vision Continues to Improve By Evolution Not Revolution."


He is listed in the first edition of Marquis "Who's Who in Science and Engineering."
