Summary of Expertise: Listed with other top experts in:
Expert has more than 40 years of experience specializing in various types of mixing equipment and processes. He has developed new impellers, created design procedures, investigated processes, and conducted laboratory tests. The laboratory testing has given Expert a unique basis and understanding for evaluating and anticipating mixing results.

He has worked for manufacturers of liquid mixing equipment, high-viscosity mixers, high-shear mixers, dry-solids mixers, portable mixers, static mixers, and pilot-plant reactors. Because of his equipment background, he understands how mechanical engineering must work with chemical engineering to design successful equipment.

Although each application can have unique features, Expert has worked with mixing operations such as batch blending, crystallization, dispersion, emulsification, extraction, fluid agitation, gas dispersion, liquid blending, liquid-liquid dispersion, mass transfer, heat transfer, chemical reaction, solids dissolution, solids incorporation, solids suspension, and product storage.

Mixing equipment and applications are found in nearly all industries that handle or produce liquid products or intermediates. Expert has worked with mixer applications in the following industries: adhesives, aeration, agricultural chemicals, alcohol, biochemicals, clay and ceramics, chemical intermediates, coatings and resins, corn wet milling, flue gas desulfurization, food, hazardous waste, industrial waste, inorganic chemicals, mineral processing, municipal water and wastewater, organic chemicals, petroleum, pharmaceuticals, polymers, pulp and paper, soaps and detergents.

Reactor design is the key to most chemical processes. The reactor is where raw materials are converted into products. Mixers often play a key role in performance. Expert's knowledge of mixers may help identify ways to make substantial process improvements, reduce costs, and improve quality. Mechanical and operating problems can rob performance from mixing equipment. Expert can often identify mechanical problems and recommend solutions that will improve operations and reduce maintenance.

Expert knows pilot plants and scale-up. He built pilot plant reactors for a couple of years and has written articles and presented seminars on scale-up. His experience in the laboratory has been converted to many successful large-scale mixers.

He teaches a courses on liquid mixing, liquid mixing scale-up and powder mixing. He consults regularly in these areas. Typical applications include everything from minerals, to foods, to pharmaceuticals and the equipment for each area.
