He has worked in the area of CCD cameras for the last five years. Expert is interested in evaluating different CCD cameras for inspection, tracking tasks, and intelligent vehicle highway systems.

CCD camera

He has taught several classes in the area of computer imaging software. In addition, he has consulted for at least five companies in the area of software for image processing.

computer imaging software

Expert has taught several classes in this area. He has also consulted for several companies in the area of hardware and software for imaging. He has helped in the selection of imaging hardware (with emphasis on real-time imaging) and has helped in the creation of imaging algorithms. He has also worked with medical imaging.

Expert has worked extensively in the mid- and near-infrared sensing. He also has expertise in the area of far-infrared sensing. He has developed systems for ice detection, for detection of occupants in a vehicle, driver fatigue monitoring, target tracking, detection of deer, intruder detection and human stress detection.

He has worked with a major infrared sensor player in the selection of an appropriate infrared sensor. He has also advised a state agency.

infrared sensor

Expert has taught several classes in this area. In addition, he has consulted for at least five companies regarding filtering, thresholding, edge detection, edge tracing, line fitting, Hough transform, region (blob) analysis, motion tracking, shadow analysis, texture analysis, compression, preprocessing steps, calibration, active vision, 3-D vision, stereo, surface reconstruction, and applications.

computer vision

machine vision

He has worked the last five years in the areas of planning, intelligent agents, software agents, knowledge representation, logic, and AI applications.

artificial intelligence

Expert has worked for more than eight years in various ITS areas. The main focus of his work is traffic safety, sensors for traffic applications, and machine vision applications in transportation. He has taught several seminars and some of his work has appeared on national TV news and in newspapers. He has built a pedestrian and human detection system based on CCD cameras and a system that detects driver fatigue. He has also produced algorithms for detection, tracking and classification of vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians. Finally, he has developed a system (based on infrared sensors) that finds the number of vehicle occupants in a vehicle.

He is the Director of the "Center for Distributed Robotics" at the Expert's University. He is in charge of a consortium that developed the "scout" minirobot. There is a patent on this product and it has been featured on CNN, BBC, NBC and several local news media. The specially designed and constructed scouts are extremely small (roughly 116cc volume), yet are readily deployable (by tossing or launching), have multiple mobility modes, have multiple sensing capabilities, can transmit and receive data and instructions, and have a limited capability for autonomous action.

He has significant experience in real-time imaging. The emphasis of his work in this area is detection and tracking of objects. He has developed imaging algorithms for various Datacube, Imaging Technologies and Matrox Genesis systems. He has also experience in real-time inspection.

real-time imaging

NIkos has worked on surface reconstruction, stereo systems, structure from motion, selection of features, and depth map creation. He has also advised a startup company in this area.

three-dimensional machine vision

He has consulted in the areas of neural networks, Bayesian methods, learning, shape representation, OCR, discrete dynamic patterns, and applications of pattern recognition.

pattern recognition

He has worked with state and federal agencies in the selection of near-infrared sensor technology. Applications include detection of deer, ice, and vehicles.

near-infrared sensor

Expert has worked extensively in the areas of vision and infrared sensors. He has taught both classes and short industrial tutorials. He has received more than $6 million dollars external funding in this area in order to conduct research. He has also helped in the evaluation and selection of sensors for various federal and state agencies.
