Summary of Expertise: Listed with other top experts in:
Expert's experience in agricultural development includes introduction of center pivot irrigation for irrigated corn to western Nebraska in the early 1970's when the area had previously been considered only as a dry land wheat production land. He also worked in the Pacific Northwest helping farmers convert from dry land agriculture to irrigated agriculture with water from the Columbia River. This involved proper hybrid selection, planting densities, and fertilization and pest control techniques.

He was on the leading edge of a new program to develop hybrid hard red winter wheat as a hybrid wheat seed production manager. The program involved many new techniques to assure purity and heterozygosity.

In California, he was the Director of Agronmic Services for a seed company that was on the leading edge of seed coating technology for small grass and legume seed. He developed a manual for planting rates of coated versus raw seed. This not only led the industry in seed coating but also opened up many new markets previously untouched.

In the Midwest, expert, as Corporate Manager of Technical Services, wrote manuals for alfalfa, soybean, corn, sorghum and wheat production that were used by researchers as well as sales and marketing personnel..He set up and managed company and university seed testing programs.

As research scientist and pilot production manager, he developed and implemented a method of high oil corn silage research. He developed the harvesting and storage equipment and techniques on a miniaturized basis to accurately predict nutritional advances and feed value of new high oil hybrids. He also reviewed all advertising material for accuracy, and worked closely with research and legal departments.

Expert also set up and implemented genetics by environment (G X E) study of new corn hybrids to evaluate added values trait reactions to environments. This program was part of a marketing program to establish higher value product lines for increased revenue for the seed company as well as the farmer and end user. In this role, he also developed production techniques for new biotechnology regulated traits to evaluate the traits in different environments and restrict contamination of related crops. He wrote the field protocols for the planting through harvesting and storage of these new events. The grain from these production fields was used to feed rats, chickens, swine, beef and dairy cattle to evaluated safety of the new event as part of the EPA and FDA deregulation process.

As North American Manager of of shipping, receiving and storage of regulated biological material he set up and managed shipping, receiving and storage protocols for regulated biological materials to and from all North American and international research locations. He worked intensively with corporate researchers as well as regulatory personnel in USDA, EPA, FDA, Homeland Security and regulatory officials in Europe, Russia, Africa, South America, Japan and China to ensure safe and timely movement of regulated biologica materials.
