Summary of Expertise: Listed with other top experts in:
With over 35 years in industrial management of research, customer technical service, marketing and sales (in the PVC and additive industries), and an ability to communicate effectively both in writing and "one-on-one" in person, as well as experience in management and organization geared SPECIFICALLY to solve customer problems, he knows these strengths can be used effectively to help an organization enhance its product and sales development activities.

With a scientific background, strong work ethic and good health, he knows that he can make positive contributions to any operations involving the science and technology of PVC.

Represented a number of plastics additive and lab test equipment suppliers to the plastics (mainly PVC) INDUSTRIES. These included suppliers of metal-organic, organometallic, and organic PVC stabilizers, epoxy and ester PVC plasticisers, calcium carbonate and alumina trihydrate fillers, paraffin wax and ester lubricants, azo bis formamide foaming agents, torque rheometers, and heat stability ovens. Grew territory from $1.2 MM to over $5 MM in a very competitive environment.

He was responsible for all phases of customer introduction, plant trials, and additive developments for rapidly growing PVC markets in North America, Europe, Latin America. Intimately involved with the development of di/mono methyl tin mercaptoacetate heat stabilizers for PVC, and later development of di/mono methyl tin mercaptoethyl oleates ("reverse esters") as even better PVC stabilizers, finally the first "one-pack" stabilizer-lubricant system in which the methyl tin chloride/mercaptide reaction was carried out in the molten wax medium, resulting upon cooling in a homogeneous stabilizer-lubricant package for the PVC pipe industry. These developments resulted in a market penetration of over 70%. Published in-house booklet, "Rigid PVC Extrusion I&II" which included a trouble shooting guide for PVC -primarily twin screw-extrusion.

As a research chemist he worked on the organic syntheses of various polyesters, and evaluation of these as viscosity control agents in motor oils-which led to a brief Olin/Avisun venture in early multi-grade automotive lube oils.

Also worked on improving synthesis of polyethylene terephthalate fiber forming Polymers.

1979 to 1996

Anderson & Co. Inc.,Akron OH

Technical Sales Representative

Covering a three state area, he represented a number of plastics additive and lab test equipment suppliers to the plastics (mainly PVC) industries. These included suppliers of metal-organic, organometallic, and organic PVC stabilizers, epoxy and ester PVC plasticisers, calcium carbonate and alumina trihydrate fillers, paraffin wax and ester lubricants, azo bis formamide foaming agents, torque rheometers, and heat stability ovens. He grew the territory from $1.1 MM to over $5 MM in a very competitive environment.

1972 to 1979

Cincinnati Milacron Chemicals (now Rohm & Haas),Reading OH

Manager, Customer Technical Service

He was responsible for all phases of customer introduction, plant trials, and additive developments for rapidly growing PVC markets in North America, Europe, Latin America. He was intimately involved with the development of di/mono methyl tin mercaptoacetate heat stabilizers for PVC, and later development of di/mono methyl tin mercaptoethyl oleates (“reverse esters”) as even better PVC stabilizers, finally the first “one-pack” stabilizer-lubricant system in which the methyl tin chloride/mercaptide reaction was carried out in a molten wax medium, resulting upon cooling in a homogeneous stabilizer-lubricant package for the PVC pipe industry. These developments resulted in a market penetration of over 70%. He also authored an in-house booklet, "Rigid PVC Extrusion I&II" which included a trouble shooting guide for PVC -primarily twin screw-extrusion.

1969 to 1972

Cincinnati Milacron Chemicals, Reading OH

Product/Marketing Manager

He had Product/Marketing responsibility for wax , antioxidant, and UV stabilizer additives for the polyolefin (polyethylene & polypropylene) markets. These included ethylene bis stearamide waxes, di-alkyl thio dipropionates, and octoxy benzophenones,

1961 to 1969

Advance Division, Carlisle Chemical Co.(now Akcros),New Brunswick, NJ

Technical Service Manager

He was heavily involved in all phases of additive (stabilizer)development, testing, and customer assistance in the flexible PVC industry---main thrust was to deliver optimum cost/performance to the customer (both domestic and foreign). This product line included the family of mixed metal salts of organic acids---Ba, Cd, Ca, Zn, Sr carboxylates (mainly C-8 to C-18 straight and branched chain carboxylic acids), alkyl/aryl phosphates, epoxidized soya oil, butyltin mercaptoesters, and butyltin carboxylates.

1958 to 1961

Cincinnati Milling Machine Co.(now Cincinnati Milacron),Cincinnati OH

Sr. Research Chemist

Initially he studied the mechanism of adhesion promotion of copper foil to FRP laminates (involving trace amounts of maleic anhydride in the polyester mix), which lead to commercial introduction of copper/fiberglass reinforced polyester board for early printed circuit boards. He optimized a safer “Grignard-in hydrocarbon” reaction for less hazardous production of organo-tin intermediates for PVC stabilizer production. This involved the use of fractional mole amounts of THF in a Stoddard Solvent type hydrocarbon with machine tool- “surface-activated” magnesium chips, butyl chloride, and the simultaneous addition of tin tetra chloride-----resulting in high yields of the dibutyl tin dichloride intermediate in the single reaction.

He also prepared the model organotin, and Ba, Cd, Zn carboxylates for the infra red and radioactively tagged studies of Frye and Horst elucidating the mechanism of PVC stabilization (published circa 1960-61). This study was a seminal piece of work in the PVC industry back then!
