He received his M.D. from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School and completed his residency training in psychiatry at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital. He obtained the Chief Resident position his final year in 1982 and received the highest resident award when he finished.

He is noted for the thoroughness of his evaluations of new patients, and he has been recognized in the listings of Florida Super Doctors--South Florida Edition. He also has extensive experience with disability evaluations. His knowledge of psychopharmacology is highly regarded by his referral sources and peers.
