Summary of Expertise:

Expert is a FAA-licensed A&P mechanic with over 24 years in commercial aircraft maintenance, with a heavy focus on engines. With more than 20 years working on engines, he has served in a variety of roles from mechanic, lead mechanic, acting supervisor and acting Bill-of-Work planner, to his current role of Technical Representative - Power Plant, APU & Landing Gear Maintenance in the Marketing Department of a major airline. He has also been involved in many FAA investigations and a NTSB investigation resulting from a total aircraft loss. In his current capacity, he provides detailed technical information involved in developing proposals and contracts with outside, third party customers. He has undergone extensive training as required by the FAA as well as airline programs. His main strengths are General Electric engines, specifically the CF6-80 family of engines. Expert has a vast amount of experience related to these engines with regard to overhaul and repair of the engines as well as trouble shooting engine problems in the field. He is heavily relied upon for information and advice by his marketing department when building customer workscopes. Expert also has a background in Pratt & Whitney JT8D engines as well, where he participated in many FAA investigations due to in-flight incidents, including bird strikes, bearing failures and blade failures. Expert has also, in his capacity of acting Bill-of-Work planner, worked closely with multiple departments to determine work scopes, inspection criteria and records reviews. As acting Supervisor, he has led a team of 40+ mechanics in the timely production of engines to meet customer needs. As a lead mechanic, he has helped identify methods to reduce turn times of engines in shop and reduce out-of-service times of engines in the field. As a mechanic, he has trained many new mechanics and explained many processes to engineers that were unfamiliar with the product as well as the maintenance manuals and policies. As a result of his experience, Expert was specifically sought by his management to provide technical support to Marketing. He was recognized by his company as the Employee of the Quarter for 1Q08 for Customer Support because of his abilities to manage difficult contracts and projects while ensuring products were delivered on time or early. In this capacity, Expert has worked closely with many disciplines to provide the best service available to his customers and his company.

He communicates with customers the progress of work while in shop, as well as reviewing invoices with Finance to be sure accurate costs are captured. Previously, he provided support by managing contracts and projects for aircraft maintenance. He also provides input for wording in legal documents, such as contracts and NDAs.

GE Products

Overhaul Mechanic

Expert's main duties were to provide support to production as an overhaul mechanic, but he also supported the business group in the roles of lead mechanic, acting supervisor and bill-of-work planner. He trained many of the mechanics still in the shop how to use tooling, manuals and IPCs to accomplish the tasks they were assigned. He has been referred to by his supervisors as the 'silent leader' of the shop because of his knowledge of the product, willingness to share information and his ability to make decisions without needing approval from superiors. Many times he has proven that he knows the engine better than his superiors and engineers and is sought for information and advice by them, especially when field maintenance is required.

1987 to 1989

Pratt & Whitney Products

Overhaul Mechanic

Expert's primary responsibilities were to provide support to production as an overhaul mechanic on JT8 engines, but he also provided training to new personnel on proper use of tooling, manuals an procedures as well. He was quickly identified by his lead mechanic as a fast learner, and was assigned to provide support to other shops by inspecting engine modules for serviceability and performing non-routine repairs like fan and gearbox replacements.

1985 to 1987

Aircraft Maintenance

Aircraft Cleaner

Expert hired on with American while going through school at Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa, OK. His primary job was to wash and polish American's aircraft, but his supervisor found that he had an ability to get people motivated and drew their respect by his willingness to do what others disliked. He had proven he was capable of leading crews to accomplish their assigned work quickly and with teamwork, and kept him moving around the facility to pick up where others couldn't. Toward the end of his tenure as an Aircraft Cleaner, Expert was asked to stay on as a Crew Chief because of his ability to lead by example and motivate others.

Additional Skills and Services:

Expert helped develop his airline's CF6 Engine Boreblending training class that is currently taught to line mechanics throughout our system. When his airline acquired this technology, he performed the first repair of its type in San Francisco, preventing the removal of an engine and a more detailed repair. When the GE rep came to teach him how to use the equipment, Expert showed him a technique he used in the field, and he said that he came down to teach wade and his company how to use the equipment but ended up being taught things he didn't even know. A few years ago, his Maintenance Training department needed to develop a class curiculum on how to properly use the tooling in the field. Expert worked with the instructor to develop the class outline, and taught him how to use the equipment as well.

Supplier and Vendor Location and Selection

While managing an aircraftcontract, Expert had to help the customer locate and purchase hard-to-find material for their F100 aircraft. His airline's Purchasing department consistently could not find the required material, causing delays in production. Expert took the initiative to look around and found several websites that had supplies that his Purchasing couldn't access. Expert then notified the customer of part availability through other means, and they produced the aircraft on time and budget.

Other Skills and Services

Expert has a mind that's always trying to analyze how and why things work, or don't. When he can identify a problem that doesn't seem to have a solution, he works to find that solution either by a change in process or procedure, or by changing the way the entire operation works. Efficiency is Expert's main goal. He leads by example, meaning he won't tell someone to do something he won't. Long hours and hard work are not strangers to Wade, and he tends to work more than most people will to solve problems. Expert also tends to think a little differently than most, allowing him to put a fresh set of eyes on a program or project that is failing or inconsistent. He's proven himself time and again as a leader and a manager of difficult situations, and is always looking for a way to do things better and more cost-effective for the company and the mechanic on the floor.
