Expert has dedicated the last 30 years to automatic assembly and industrial automation. He has successfully worked as an estimator, sales manager and application engineer for four major U.S. and international machine builders. Expert has provided automation assistance to manufacturers seeking to automate their processes and/or automatically assemble/test their products. He has also assisted assembly machine builders that lacked the time, manpower or the expertise in certain markets and industries to adequately pursue without risk.

When assisting manfucturers, Expert has relied heavily on analyzing their current manufactuirng situation which included the facility layout, material flow, information flow, manufacturing processes, inventory restrictions, risk and manpower requirements. With this data and the customer's new requirements, he has developed automated assembly systems that have given the end user maximum production rates, efficiencies, flexibility and uptime while also providing minimum cost, manpower, risk, mean time to repair and model changeover time.

Expert has worked with all types of assembly machines and systems from single cells to fully automated robotic systems. His background has covered most industries including automotive, appliance, aerospace, medical, energy, diesel engine and consumer goods. The size of the components Expert has been involved with range from fuel injectors with micron fit components to wing spars for commercial aircraft.

Consulting Services:
Selected Consulting Examples:
  • Expert assisted a robotic welding firm as they pursued new business with a customer and product in which they had no experience. With Expert's history and background with this type of product and also having worked with this new customer before, his input was instrumental in putting together a quote package that was precise, understandable, and cost effective. His input reduced the risk involved in quoting equipment for an unfamiliar market.
  • Expert's product and processing knowledge of rack and pinion steering modules aided a midwest machine builder in acquiring a $3,000,000 order for an automatic assembly system. His application engineering presence created a cost effective and highly productive system that out performed all competitors.
  • A major manufacturer of wheel spindle bearings for the automotive industry requested Expert's assistance in concepting a machine design that could handle a multitude of models at varying production capacities. The assembly machines were designed to accept and share a range of size tooling packages so that more than one machine could assemble the same bearing model and still be flexible. This effort resulted in the purchase of 12 machines at a value of over $19,000,000.
  • A major manufacturer of wheel spindle bearings for the automotive industry requested Expert's assistance in concepting a material handling system for ABS sensor caps. This delicate product had a particular shape that could not be automatically fed in bulk without receiving damage. Manual loading was not fast enough nor efficient. Expert concepted an automatic tray handling system that allowed the manufacturer to use the trays for shipping the outsourced ABS caps from the supplier to the assembly plant where they were loaded directly to the tray handler. Each tray handler held a 4-hour supply of caps. This effort resulted in repetitive orders with tray handlers being used throughout their manufacturing plant.
  • An Illinois based diesel engine manufacturer requested an automatic system that could assemble various styles of heat jackets to a multitude of exhaust manifolds. Using manual operators would not be cost effective, was ergonomically unsuitable and caused a concern regarding quality. Expert developed a machine consisting of a floor level conveyor using RF identified pallets with adjustable holding fixtures. This design allowed 22 varying models to be built on a common pallet with no change tooling. Operators could efficiently walk around each floor level pallet without obstruction. Common robotic load and unload stations were used to keep the system cost effective.
