Summary of Expertise:

Listed with other top experts in:

Expert is an experienced FAA Certified Airframe and Powerplant mechanic with over 20 years experience in the United States Air Force, working on a wide range of aircraft ranging from small fighter aircraft to wide body multi engine aircraft. His area of expertise (but not limited too) is in jet propulsion where he has received numerous awards for his ability to troubleshoot the most difficult and puzzling problems. In addition he was also a jet propulsion instructor teaching such things as schematic diagram reading, troubleshooting and hands on application, he has been recognized for setting the standard for aircraft maintenance. Expert is a good communicator, listener, learner and trainer but above all he is a team player. Here are a few examples:

-He determined that the thermo efficiency of an F110-GE-129 engine had been degraded simply by the pilot telling him that he had to go to augmentation to keep up with his wing man that was flying at an intermediate throttle setting. There were no other indications other than the pilot's statement. The engine monitoring system did not detect a fault. Expert borescoped the combustor and HPT turbine nozzle vanes but there was no defect noted, as he went further into the hot section, he noticed that several HPT blade tips had melted. Expert then further added to the case by noticing that PHI (fuel to air ratio) was on the way up without the diagnostic system on the aircraft/engine catching it. -Expert troubleshot and engine no start to a rare condition when after troubleshooting the ignition system and found no defect he decided to borescope the combustor and found the swirl cup that encircles the ignitor plug tip missing, this caused an irregular flow pattern across the plug hindering its ability to ignite the fuel air mixture. -Expert is trained on interpreting piping and installation drawings, general engineering drawings and controls, electrical schematics, and instrumentation -Expert trained personnel on engine teardown, troubleshooting and theory of operation -Expert was a General Electric F110-GE-129 Instructor – He provided technical direction and project management of installation, commissioning, troubleshooting and maintenance of gas turbine engines/generators. -He was the Engine run, Borescope, blade blending, and intake & exhaust certifier for both Spangdahlem air base, Germany and Kunsan air base, Korea -He analyzed data through troubleshooting techniques to determine necessary repairs. -He inspected aircraft and jet engine systems to determine operational status. -Expert removed and replaced wing and attachment hardware for modification/upgrade, removed and replaced main landing gear for time change -He removed and re-installed trailing edge flaps due to worn hinge bolts, removed and re-installed rudder due to worn ISA (Intergraded Servo Actuator) bushing and hinge bolts and migrating bearings, found, removed and replaced a defective fuel flow proportioner, inspected and found a defective power drive unit due to no oil, removed and replaced PDU, removed and replace an accessory drive gearbox for cannibalization, removed and re-installed horizontal stabilizer due to warn bearings, performs aircraft phase and Mid life inspections, performs operational check outs of the landing gear, aircraft internal/external fuel systems, flight control, hydraulic system, 20mm Gun system, sub-systems and components -Expert is the local subject matter expert and advisor for the F100-PW-220E turbofan engine

Consulting Services:
Selected Consulting Examples:
  • Expert was approached by his supervisor and was asked if the velocity of the air leaving the nozzle increases when the aircraft engine goes into augmentation. Because he was told by his FDT instructor that it does not. I told him “yes” and I used Sir Isaac Newton's 3rd law of motion. I told him that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.
