Expert has taught in higher education for more than 25 years. He taught design and design drawing courses, and a wide variety of higher education and adult education courses. He has a MA in Adult Education and a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies. His research is in the area of teaching and learning in higher education. For more than 10 years, Expert has been a professional faculty developer, working with university faculty and departments on issues related to teaching, learning, assessment, and curriculum development. His current work is in the arena of engineering education, wherein he works with engineering faculty on teaching improvement and conducts research on learning engineering design processes. He has conducted dozens of workshops on a wide array of education topics (e.g., applying adult learning theory, teamwork, developing teaching/learning philosophies, designing learning assessments, active learning pedagogies) for higher education faculty and other training professionals.

Duties include individual consultation on teaching concerns, design and facilitation of development workshops, assisting in the design, conduct, analysis, and dissemination of engineering education research, and representing CELT to the academic community and broader engineering discipline.

Expert provided support to 34 faculty members, scheduled classes, hired new faculty, completed departmental 10-year accreditation review. He developed and initiated the department's first faculty development program, began a process of formative assessment of teaching, secured funding and developed a state-of-the-art computer design lab, and collaborated with faculty on the redesign of four core degree programs and the development of a new degree program in furniture design.

2009 to 2009   Taiwan   Expert was invited to give a special 3-hour workshop at the American Society of Mechanical Engineering Asia Pacific Congress, in Taipei, Taiwan. the title of the workshop was "Applying Design Research Findings in Engineering Classrooms."
2006 to 2006   Korea   Expert was invited to present his research at the International Design Research Symposium, in Seoul, Korea. The presentation was entitled, "Design Education."
2006 to 2006   Canada   Expert was invited to give a plenary presentation entitled "Applying Research to Improve Engineering Student Learning," at the International CDIO (Conceive, Design, Implement, and Operate) Meeting. Ecole Polytechnique, Montreal Canada.
2004 to 2004   Albania   Expert was invited to conduct a workshop on "Linking Learning Theory to Teaching Practices" for the faculty of the Luigi Gurakuqi University, in Shkodra, Albania.
