Summary of Expertise:

Listed with other top experts in:

Expert was taught in the field of Ferrous Metallic Corrosion as early as 1974 to become Director of Research & Development for the Laboratoires SECUR in Antwerp, Belgium in 1978. Expert worked on training and supervising the FEO 23 Surface Preparation Corrosion and Rust Inhibitors distribution teams for Rhône Poulenc Chimie Fine (Div. Métallurgie) from 1975 on as well as he collaborated with Edward Stokoe (Depauw & Stokoe) now a member company to the SGS Group, to set up corrosion monitoring and remediation techniques in the field of tank and pipe cleaning and refurbishing.

Expert's research interests shifted in 1984 to the study of alcohol fuels and their own set of corrosion issues that affected light distillate fuels blending, storage and distribution. Working through the incentives brought up by the Clean Air Act, Expert moved from Europe to California were he started NRG Technologies to study detergents, corrosion inhibitors and specialty fuel additives and blending inhibitors. This research program was rewarded with a series of international patents and US Patent 4,973,336 that led to a joint venture research opportunity in collaboration with Romic Chemical corporation of E. Palo alto, CA. Expert became the VP of Research & Development on a program which specialized on gas-derived mixed alcohol synthesis and multiple boiling point ethers. Expert developed several ether and integrated alkylation technologies in the OXYMAX and OPTIMAX programs who were granted patents in the USA and abroad. Expert continued to develop alternative fuel technologies in the field of alcohol fuels, ligno-cellulosic mixed alcohol synthesis and biomass fuels in both the sector of light and middle distillate fuels. Since 2006, Expert acqured certain assets to consolidate his know how within his original corrosion specialization field.

Now GSI Americas, since 2012

Diector, VP Research

The company is currently being reorganized where its Fuel activities are being separated from the metallurgy division, which currently is focused on consulting activities only.

MG Bioindustries is developing new surface preparation technology which is intended to seek patent protection as early as 2014 - 2015, as a result of its formulations being geared toward the main utilisation of biorenewable wastes to produce high value added components. This chemistry will then become licensed for use in the making of alternative fuels and metal treatments.

2003 to

Corrosion Research & Consulting

Sr. Consultant

Expert's Firm was originally called MG Technologies. The Company was working with various capitalization entities in England, France and on Wall Street to launch the Fuel Smart technology. Today we have re-directed our venture as an independent Open Innovation start-up entity. More of our initial attention is being devoted in research in collaboration with a series of Independent laboratories and Acadamia. Our goal is to position GFS in Europe, Asia and the Americas as a premier Anti-Corrosion Research Network to see to the development of cleaner and more efficient solutions in the global fight against corrosion.

2003 to 2011

MG Energy

OXY Fuels - became MG Technologies

Director of Research

Expert was invited by a Chinese group to reformulate an alternative fuel so as to make it fully rely on oxygenate chemistry. This fuel helped Expert develop several chemistries and processes to advance the product to a full-fledged technology: FuelSmart. FuelSmart proved able to operate a spark-ignition type engine without requiring modifications or additives. As from 2004, the company shifted its core research toward the development of a new generation of environmentally safe corrosion inhibitors that, used in the process, allowed to increase resistance of fuel refining and blending installations agains elastomer and metallic corrosion.

1987 to 2002

NRG Technologies

Alternative Fuels

Assistant Researcher to Director of R&D

Expert, Mike Schneider and Anthony Nelson partnered to launch NRG Technologies. The Company was set to work on several formulations whic proved efficient to develop advanced alternative fuel additives. The Company was granted patents since 1990. It entered into a joint venture research program as early as March 1989. The research objective was the improvement of the fuel applications of methanol and its chemistry.

1989 to 1996

Alternative Fuel Technologies (AFT)

Director of Research

AFT was incorporated as a Joint Venture enterprise between NRG Technologies, LP and Romic Chemical Corporation. The goal and mission we pursued was to find ways to improve the energy usage of lower alcohols in order to deliver the gasoline and diesel fuel refining industries with better options in the field of clean fuel technologies, emissions abatement, octane blending and new technologies and products in both the areas of octane and cetane blending.

1986 to 1989

Adhesive division

Consulting manager

ROMIC purchased an adhesive company in Newark that they wished to reorganize. As ROMIC was interested in some of the know-how proved by Expert's research data, ROMIC decided to involve Expert Expert in this project due to his reputable knowledge in the fields of surfactants, polymers and anticorrosion science.

1979 to 1987

Laboratoires SECUR

Advanced Fuels Specialty Chemicals

Director of R&D

Responsible for a proprietary multiple boiling point oxygenate synthesis principle which captured the interest of MIDAX in France. MIDAX was in a partnership negotiation with a swiss operation that were heavily involved in MeOH alternative fuels. The research program led to the development of two products: a detergent corrosion inhibitor that voided the phase separation typically encountered in gasoline-MeOH blends and a product to balance vapor pressure of gasoline-MeOH blends .

1977 to 1986

Laboratoires SECUR

Corrosion Lab

Director of R&D

Expert completed training and was accepted for a two-year internship in 1976. Was hired as a replacement to Dr. Koeck upon his retirement in 1978. Became responsible of the FEO 23 research program which led to the development of an exhaustive catalog of formulations to address issues of ferrous metal surface preparation, corrosion inhibition of surfaces and structures exposed to ISO 12944 C3 to C5i/m environments.
