Expert founded Expert's Firm and currently acts as a Managing Partner. Over the course of 3 years, he has enabled finance companies, microfinance institutions, cooperatives, trade associations, governments, investors and international development organizations to reach their goals. He has also worked with management and leaders on strategy, conducted market studies, assessed risk, set policies, reviewed programs, developed business plans, analyzed value chains, created financial projections, raised capital, launched products, improved operations, and led trainings.

Expert managed 9 staff, a $1.2 million budget and a $6 million balance sheet, as well as hired staff members and interns. He diversified financing, reducing dependency on government funding from 80% to 40%, and increased the budget by 20%. In addition, Expert implemented 3 new products and signed 12 community partnership agreements.

Expert contributed to 20 deals totaling $10 million and was the staff lead on equity investment in a $100 million transaction. He was a founding staff person of Capital Markets Group, wherein he established a risk management system for the entire organization and contributed to the launch of a $60 million program called Growth Guarantees. Additionally, Expert managed the ‘High Growth Partner Project' initiative- establishing criteria to evaluate 45 partners in 16 countries and selecting 14 partners to develop 5 year strengthening plans with.

At Prisma Microfinance, Expert co-authored a business plan that won the Global Social Venture Competition. In addition, he raised $1.2 million in private capital. He also led the operational set up of headquarters in Boston and lending offices in Nicaragua. Additionally, Expert developed a strategic plan and launched an NGO research center funded by the Ford Foundation.

  • As the Microfinance Reporting Standards Project Facilitator for client SEEP Network, Expert works with international MFI stakeholders world-wide to review existing standards mechanisms and reporting systems to devise international universal norms and policies, as well as an institutional system for the industry to operate. His specific tasks include industry wide survey (developed survey, evaluated data, and wrote summary report); industry presentation; liaise with investors; and sector advocacy.
  • Expert worked with SEEP Network on the FRAME Innovation Project to develop Developing new innovations to make FRAME a better tool for MFIs, easier to use, and more useful in management decision-making. Addressing MIS systems and MFI management.

International Experience:

Afghanistan   Facilitated national meeting with Central Bank towards uniform long term policy plan on SME and microfinance lending and business development. Emphasis was on rural strategies to reach new markets. Developing strategy paper for national model to advance SME sector, provide agricultural services, understand financial products, and organize sector opportunities. USAID ARIES program with AED.
Africa   Evaluated regulatory framework and policy environment in eight countries and made recommendations for investment in financial services for low income people.
Central America   Conducted a four country market survey evaluation (El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua) of financial services supply and demand, with consideration of the future investment environment, for Katalysis Bootstrap Fund, the microfinance market, and banking entry into that market. Made recommendations on investment products for the client's fund in the region.
Mexico   Mexico. Environmental Defense Fund, Cooperative Enhancement. Conducted assessment and evaluation of this regional cooperative. Assisted institution with accounting systems, audit compliance, MIS, product development, and financial projections.
The Philippines   The Philippines. For SDC Asia and partnership with the SEEP Network, developed micro-franchise structure and financial needs for new company offering sustainable fish farms to low income people in post conflict Mindanao, Davao.
