Summary of Expertise:

Listed with other top experts in:

Expert's research interests focus on the bacterial cell surface. This focus is based on the philosophy that the bacterial cell surface offers a rich source of molecules which can be utilized and adapted to treat or prevent infections. Currently we have three major themes exploiting a range of experimental techniques to address fundamental questions in the biology of host-pathogen interactions: (1) Expert uses biochemical and biophysical methodologies to study the biogenesis of a group of proteins termed autotransporters, (2) Expert uses structural, biochemical and biophysical techniques to understand the basis for outer membrane biogenesis in Gram negative bacteria and (3) Expert uses molecular biology, cellular biology and immunological methodologies to study the interaction of Salmonella sp. with the host. As part of these investigations Prof Henderrson has developed translational partnerships several multinational pharmaceutical companies. In addition, Expert utilizes genome sequencing to appreciate the diversity and repertoire of surface proteins among gram-negative bacteria with a view to developing novel intervention strategies.
