    Definition:  Mohorovicic Discontinuity - A discontinuity between the earth's crust and the underlying mantle. The existence of the Mohorovicic discontinuity was inferred in 1909 by measurements indicating a sudden increase in seismic wave velocity when they passed about 10-12 kilometers below the oceans and about 33-35 kilometers below the continents.
