Definition:  Pirani Gage - A gage used to measure thermal conductivity in a gas over a range of pressure from about 1 torr down to about 1 E-04 torr. A Pirani gage has a filament which is electrically heated and exposed to a low-pressure gas. Gas pressure determines the filament's resulting temperature, which can be measured as a function of the filament resistance. Thus, a Pirani gage can indirectly measure the pressure of a gas. A wheatstone bridge is used in some Pirani gages to determine filament resistance.
