    Definition:  Canthaxanthin - A carotenoid pigment widely occurring in nature, which has been synthesized as well. The trans form of this molecule occurs as violet crystals. It is used as a food and drug color additive, as well as an oral suntanning agent, although its use as the latter has not been approved. It may cause the loss of night vision.
