Guaiacol Experts

    Definition:  Guaiacol - A colorless crystalline compound isolated from guaiac resin, which has an aromatic odor, a molecular weight of 124.13, and is soluble in water and miscible with alcohol. It melts at 27.9 degrees Celsius and boils at 205 degrees Celsius, and is toxic by ingestion and skin absorption. It is used as a chemical reagent to determine the presence of such substances as lignin, narceine, and nitrous acid, and in medicine as an expectorant.
