Hot Point Probe Experts

    Definition:  Hot Point Probe - A probe device used to determine whether a semiconductor wafer is p- or n-type. Two probes, one hot and one cool, are placed on the wafer in close proximity to each other creating a circuit. Charge carriers will diffuse through the sample from hot to cool, causing a current to flow. The net current will depend on the majority carriers within the wafer, electrons or holes. Since electrons and holes have opposite charges, the wafer type can be determined by the sign of the current.
