    Definition:  Neurofibromatosis - A hereditary nervous system disease that is characterized by developmental changes in the nervous system, muscles, bones and skin. It is marked by small, individual, pigmented lesions that become numerous, slow-growing, often subcutaneous neurofibromas, and which are present in the skin or along peripheral nerves. These are sometimes related to acoustic neurinomas or other intracranial neoplasms.
