    Definition:  Pyridoxine - Vitamin B6. A phenolic alcohol derived from pyridine, which can be converted to pyridoxal and pyridoxamine in the body. Pyridoxine is a precursor to the coenzyme pyridoxal phosphate and serves in the metabolism of amino acids, in the degradation of tryptophan, and in the breakdown of glycogen to glucose-1-phosphate. It is found in most foods, but primarily in meat, liver, vegetables, whole grain cereals and egg yolk.
